3 Oceans re-finds its bearings
January 18, 2007
Last time I went AWOL for a week, I blamed it on the Martian Death Flu. This time, fortunately, it was because I was busy finding another warehouse for all the ramen. At any rate, I’m back…
My latest realtor geek tech toys:
- Motorola Q: I may be thin, but apparently even my
weight was too much for the screen of my old Verizon Audiovox XV 6600 Pocket PC phone. Temporarily seduced by the MDA into defecting to T-Mobile, I am now back with Verizon, the land of few dropped calls, reliable high-speed Internet access, and ungodly expensive cell phone plans. But…the Q is a sweet piece of eye candy and a nice side benefit is it has freed me up even more from the shackles of the office. Resigned to Verizon price-gouging me an extra $15/month to use it as a high-speed modem for my laptop, I must say I’m happy with its performance. While on the road today, I used the connection to send a 4MB file (and 50 page fax)…very cool. The screen is large, with crisp colors, and the lack of a touchscreen is nicely compensated for by an intuitive button and scroll wheel interface. The voice-activated dialing works surprisingly well and integrates seamlessly with my car speakerphone system. The downside? Pathetic battery life — I can barely get through one business day of using it as a phone for, say, one hour, and as a modem for another hour. - Canon SD600 PowerShot: I may be young (relatively), but forgetfulness is already
setting in…I can’t for the life of me find my old camera (itself a replacement for one that wore out after 2 years of heavy use) so I got myself a new one. After one day of use, I’m impressed. The controls are intuitive, the LCD screen is nice sized, and, as an added bonus, it seems to take nice pictures and videos!
Yes, I know…I’m detecting a theme of carelessness too about taking care of my electronics…so for both the phone and the camera I splurged and got a two-year extra special protection guarantee that covers me even if I sit on one of them again.
