3oceans meets the … Zillow-ites? -ovians? You pick the name!

December 12, 2006

After an exhilarating family weekend, which included hours of playing Wii tennis and light-saber wars with my Star Wars-obsessed nephew, I had one more full day to kill in Seattle before heading home on Tuesday (today). What better way to spend part of that day than at Zillow.

img_1092-small.JPGI met Zillow’s ubiquitous blog poster and commenter David Gibbons as well as his very talented colleague Drew Meyer (not to be confused with this guy). I thanked both of them for making my job so much easier — whenever I’m having a hard time figuring out what to write, Zillow comes to the rescue in the form of some new, usually controversial, feature, which inevitably provides fodder for a good half dozen posts.

The rumors of the tremendous (and unZillowable) views from their offices were very much true. The views would have been even better had Seattle’s classic rainy (and also unZillowable) weather not kicked in.

I’m proud to say I stumped David with one of my questions: People who work at Google are “Googlers”; Microsoft employees are called “Microsofties.” What about the folks at Zillow?

Since there does not yet appear to be a canonical answer to that pressing question, I thought another competition would be in order: What should be the official collective noun for people who work at Zillow?

Here’s how it works: Submit your entry as a comment to this post. In a few days, I’ll pick the four or five best and put them out as a poll for my readers to vote on. The winning entry will get my standard prize: a $10 Starbucks card, and the fame and glory of being mentioned here.

Humorous and witty entries are always appreciated; off-color, inappropriate, or insulting ones (which I’m sure there will be, given the controversy around Zillow in our industry) will be accepted, but are unlikely to win; downright obscene ones definitely won’t make the cut, and may even be deleted.
I’ll start with the first obvious proposal: Zilloites.

On behalf of Glenn Kelman, I’ll propose another: Zillovians.

Suggest away!

Well, when the sun does shine in Seattle (and I’m a UK resident where it always rains) they will be ..

Zillowettes in the new dawn of online home ads

Or as they are revolutionaries in the Real Estate cyberwar..

Zillowistas (the corporate green/blue berets would look so cool)

Or because of the West Coast laidback culture…

    Zillons (man).

I’ve always been partial to Zillsters.

Of course, I’d really enjoy using the “Frinks”.
