Mea culpa twice over and the annoying cowboy error message

October 18, 2006

In response to this post about his recent publication, Mark Nadel responded in the comments section, but when he tried to comment again, he got caught with the annoying “easy cowboy” Wordpress anti-spam message. Mea culpa — that one’s caught me numerous times as well, and I haven’t yet been able to sort it out.He then emailed me:

Kevin,

Thanks for your note. Regarding the math error, I actually was going to leave a comment/question about that, but your system did not let me leave a 2nd comment, even though it was a different blog entry and at least 15 minutes later.

Anyway, I wanted to acknowledge your good point, that I should mention the long-term incentive, but on the math, I don’t see how you get $4.50/hr.
I assume
1) a $10,000 gain;
2) a 6% commission, with 3% to the listing side;
3) that the listing agent is getting a 70/30 split = 70% x 3% = 2.1%;
4) 2.1% x $10,000 = $210;
5) $210/20 hours = $10.50/hour
Right?

Mark

Again, mea culpa! I misunderstood his assumptions, which led to me falsely suggesting that Nadel’s $10.50/hr should have been $4.50.
