3 Oceans’ Wish List for Santa

Marian Bennett* is a Realtor specializing in the San Mateo Coast, especially Half Moon Bay.  Inspired by her recent Christmas wish list, here is what we at 3 Oceans would love for Christmas.

Yeah, yeah, world peace, elimination of poverty, global warming, hunger, and bad acne.  But here’s what we really want.

10. An iPhone.

9. An MLS that supports Safari — and thus the iPhone.

8. Widespread adoption of electronic transactions in real estate.  I mean, come on, let’s stop killing all those damn trees!

7. Google stock continuing its steady northward march, preferably above $1000.  That will make homes in Mountain View cost just 700 to 800 Google stock, a pittance for our Googler friends.

6. The media getting a clue about real estate.  Let’s start talking about city and neighborhood trends.  Let’s acknowledge that not every home in America is in foreclosure.  Let’s admit that there are some cities where the housing market remains buoyant.

5. More housing inventory for Palo Alto.

4. Ben Bernanke somehow figuring out how to keep interest rates low without having inflation spiral out of control.

3. Buyers to come out of their caves and actually start buying homes…before May 15, which Kris Berg has declared “American Home Buying Day.”

2. Sellers to stop acting like lemmings.  (See #5.)

1. An “increase your business by 10X” plugin for Wordpress.

What do you want for Christmas?

Add to #7 a buyout or IPO of FaceBook. FaceBook employees receive a monthly subsidy for living close to its office in downtown Palo Alto. Of course, having this wish come true exacerbates #5 further . . .

In the meantime, we will keep doing our best to address #6 (Media). Readers! If you want to help your friends get a dose of real estate reality, send them a link to one of our articles and tell them to look at the market charts on this site!

PS - For Christmas, I would like a replacement for my recently stolen bike, and for the thief to die slowly and painfully.

I have just decided keeping HMB intact would be more important than the iPhone, so I’m going to change my list! I might also add another wish that our city officals use every ounce of their combined communication skills and that the rest of us be as solution-oriented and constructive as humanly possible.

#10 and #7 are very appealing to me in this regard. Although, Verizon has just come out with the “Iphone Killer” Any thoughts on that?

    And your second choice?

I love #1, Kevin. If you get one, will you buy me a tablet PC? It dovetails quite nicely into #8, so you will essentially knock two things off your list and make me very, very happy.

    Hey Kevin,
First off, I would take any of the ten you posted. For the sake of individguality, I’d like to see the online advertising industry contue to grow here in SF, as well the city centere’s southward slide.

    Happy New Year.
