Looks Like I’m Not the Only One Thinking of Blackmail this Morning

Hot on the heels of my tongue-in-cheek — and possibly illegal — suggestion that local Realtors pay me $50/month so that I won’t write about them, the below came by email this morning.

GoFindMeOnline promises “permanent” placement on Google for “under $1 a day.” Later in the ad they clarify that they mean “on the first page of Google.”

Tell you what: I’ll promise you a package deal. Sign up with GoFindMeOnline, send me the receipt, and I’ll throw in a “Kevin won’t write about you package” for 50% off the regular price.

The ad…

    Oh good grief…

Unless your name is “John Smith” it’s not hard (at all) to show up on Google for a “your name” search.

    What a waste of money.

Now having Kevin NOT write about you, THAT may be worth something!

I’m thinking maybe I should run an ad in the Realtor community:

3-line open house ad in the Palo Alto weekly: $20

One month “top page” Google appearance: $25

    Full color half-age ad: $250

Having Kevin NOT write about you: Priceless

But in order for his “not writing about me” plan to be of value, he would need to be writing about most everyone else and then I would gain recognition for being one of the few slighted.

That would mean he would have to do a ton of writing and well, I bet he will offset the cost of his writing by padding the cost onto the fees he charges those who sign up to be not one he never writes about.

I will not be able to afford it so I am going to get my name on the first page of google the old fashion way, lots and lots of magical thinking. :)

Wow - 365 bucks a year to have my name at the top of google. With that kind of money you can buy your domain name pay for one year of hosting and pay someone to set it up for you (hint hint) after that your yearly costs can be around 100 or even less if done right.

Get a blog and splatter your name all over it and your good.
